Štefan Füle/EU-Turkey: Meeting with Minister V.Bozkir in Brussels. (Touching also on the Cyprus issue...)

"Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle met the Turkish Minister of European Affairs and Chief Negotiator Volkan Bozkır in Brussels today. Commissioner Füle welcomed Minister Bozkir's ongoing commitment to the accession process and assured him of the Commission's support. He expressed his conviction that under the Minister's determined guidance, future reforms will bring Turkey closer to the EU.

Βρυξέλλες: Τη σημασία συνέχισης των διαπραγματεύσεων μεταξύ των ηγετών της ελληνοκυπριακής και τουρκοκυπριακής κοινότητας υπό την αιγίδα των Ηνωμένων Εθνών, υπογράμμισε ο Επίτροπος Διεύρυνσης, Στέφαν Φούλε, στη διάρκεια δημοσιογραφικής διάσκεψης με θέμα τις εκθέσεις προόδου των υποψηφίων χωρών.

 Ωστόσο, ο Τσέχος Επίτροπος απέφυγε να μιλήσει για την προκλητικότητα της Άγκυρας εντός της ΑΟΖ κράτους-μέλους της ΕΕ, λέγοντας ότι μια συμφωνία για λύση του Κυπριακού θα ανοίξει το δρόμο για αξιοποίηση υδρογονανθράκων με οικονομικά οφέλη για όλους τους Κύπριους.

Το «αδιέξοδο» στο οποίο βρίσκεται η ενταξιακή πορεία της ΠΓΔΜ και η «οπισθοδρόμηση» που έχει σημειωθεί σε καίριους τομείς του κράτους δικαίου, υπογραμμίζει η ετήσια έκθεση προόδου της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής για την ΠΓΔΜ που δόθηκε σήμερα (8/10/14) στη δημοσιότητα.
Η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή επαναλαμβάνει για έκτη συνεχή χρονιά τη θετική εισήγησή της για έναρξη των ενταξιακών διαπραγματεύσεων με την ΠΓΔΜ, κάνοντας μία αποτίμηση της συνολικής σωρευτικής προόδου που έχει σημειώσει η χώρα τα τελευταία έτη. Ωστόσο, αυτή τη φορά η θετική εισήγηση της Επιτροπής συνοδεύεται από επικριτική γλώσσα για την έλλειψη ουσιαστικής προόδου σε μια σειρά θεμάτων.

Brussels (3 October) - Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle met the Turkish Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ in Brussels today, shortly after the release of Turkey's new strategy for EU accession. Commissioner Füle expressed his full appreciation for this working document, in which reforms in the area of fundamental freedom and rule of law received a prominent place.

EU scales up its assistance for the conflict-affected people in Ukraine

The European Commission is mobilising funding of €22 million to assist the population of Ukrainian regions suffering from the consequences of the conflict. This funding consists of two parts: €5 million is humanitarian aid and €17 million development aid.

European Union supports key reforms in the Republic of Moldova

Following the events in Sarajevo, the First World War took the lives of 17 million people.

Statement following the meeting with the President of the F.Y.R.O.M. (Štefan Füle)

 Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle met in Brussels with President of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (F.Y.R.O.M.) Gjorge Ivanov, during his first visit abroad since his re-election.

They discussed recent developments in the country and EU integration efforts. In relation to the recent parliamentary elections, Commissioner Füle pointed to the repeated OSCE/ODIHR recommendations regarding biased media coverage and the lack of separation between state and party activities, which are covered by the Copenhagen political criteria.

An EU-Western Balkans Ministerial Conference was hosted by the Hellenic Presidency of the Council on May 8, in Thessaloniki. Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle, Ministers for Foreign and EU Affairs from Member States and the Western Balkans, as well as senior officials from the EEAS and the European Commission participated at the Conference. Representatives of financial institutions and regional organisations attended the conference as well. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos chaired the event, which consisted of two sessions.

Statement by Commissioner Štefan Füle following the meeting with Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi, PM of Kosovo

"Mirëdita! I am glad to be in Pristina again. It is striking that every time I come we can mark one more milestone in Kosovo's relations with the EU:

- two years ago we launched the Feasibility Study on Stabilisation and Association Agreement,

- last year I reported on its Conclusions

- and now we are marking the end of successful SAA negotiations.

Serbia not to impose sanctions on Russia: Aleksandar Vučić, Serbian PM

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić  asked visiting European enlargement commissioner Stefan Fule on Monday to understand country's decision not to impose sanctions on Russia, and promised Serbia will finish all reforms necessary for the membership before 2019.

Vucic said at a press conference after meeting Fule in Belgrade that it is on Serbia to finish its reforms as fast as possible, especially to open chapter 23 and 24 of the EU acquis, as they are important for establishing rule of law.

EU-Turkey: Need to re-engage in reforms in line with EU standards

Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, Štefan Füle, met with Turkish Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Brussels today to discuss how to intensify the dialogue on key elements of EU-Turkey relations. 

Before their meeting they both participated in the session of the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee (see Commissioner Füle's speech).

In the bilateral meeting they agreed on close cooperation in areas of mutual benefit for the EU and Turkey, in particular in the area of rule of law.

Support Group for Ukraine. - The work of the Support Group could be extended also to Georgia and Moldova

The European Commission has decided today to create a Support Group for Ukraine. 
This Support Group will provide a focal point, structure, overview and guidance for the Commission's work to support Ukraine. It will also help mobilise Member States' expertise and further enhance coordination with other donors and the International Financing Institutions.

EU-Georgia: Financial support to strengthen democratic institutions

Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle signed two financing agreements in Tbilisi on Tuesday to support public finances reform in Georgia and to strengthen the role and capacities of the Parliament.

The financing agreement to support Georgia’s reform of public finance policy is worth €21m and will contribute to good governance and further strengthen government services' delivery and the accountability of the public sector. It will promote transparency, while increasing efficiency and effectiveness of planning and governmental spending.

Το Ε.Κ. στηρίζει την Ουκρανία

Τα δραματικά γεγονότα στην Ουκρανία στοίχισαν τη ζωή σε περισσότερα από 80 άτομα και οδήγησαν στην απομάκρυνση του προέδρου Yanukovych από την εξουσία. Η χώρα άλλαξε μέσα σε λίγες μέρες και η ΕΕ πρέπει τώρα να υποστηρίξει την Ουκρανία, δήλωσαν οι ευρωβουλευτές από όλα τα πολιτικά κόμματα σήμερα, στην Ολομέλεια στο Στρασβούργο. Οι ομιλητές εξέφρασαν τον σεβασμό τους και τόνισαν ότι οι Ουκρανοί πολίτες θα πρέπει να είναι σε θέση να καθορίσουν ελεύθερα το μέλλον της χώρας τους.
