Skopje is hoping the issue of the name dispute to be in the agenda of the Berlin Summit (FYROM news)

The issue of the name dispute may be one of the topics of discussion in the Berlin Summit on the Balkan.
Although Greece will not participate in the conference hosted by the German chancellor Merkel on August 28, authorities in the country do not rule out the possibility of introducing the topic of the name dispute, bearing in mind Merkel’s interest to help in solving this problem.
In this conference, FYROM will be represented by Nikola Gruevski, Foreign Minister Popovski and deputy prime minister for Economic Affairs, Vladimir Pesevski.
The issue of the name dispute may be one of the topics of discussion in the Berlin Summit on the Balkan.

German chancellor Merkel is optimistic about the solution of the name dispute (FYROM news)

German chancellor, Angela Merkel declared today that the name dispute between FYROM and Greece must be resolved and according to her, this is the only way that FYROM can become a NATO and European Union (EU) member country.
“The unresolved name dispute between Skopje and Athens is a burden for us. I’m optimistic that a solution can be achieved for this”, said the German chancellor, Angela Merkel today in Dubrovnik in front of the participants in the “Brdo-Brion Process”.

NATO Secretary General calls on political leaders in Skopje to continue reform efforts. (FYROM news)

NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on Thursday (22 May 2014) stressed that the Alliance’s door to new members remains open and urged political leaders in Skopje to strive to find an acceptable solution on the name issue. “NATO’s door is open. As we agreed at the Bucharest NATO Summit in 2008, you will receive an invitation to NATO once a mutually acceptable solution to the name issue is found,” said the Secretary General. “So I urge you to continue your efforts to strive for a solution. The time is now.”

Ivanov: I will not allow constitutional amendments for the name change
The inauguration of president George Ivanov was held today in the parliament of FYROM. This solemn session saw the absence of the FYROM opposition, but also of MPs from the Albanian party, BDI (Democratic Union for Integration), who do not consider the president elected in the April 27 elections as a legitimate president.

“Solution of the name dispute must come from within".-This process doesn’t have time limits.
US Department of State senior official, Hoyt Brian Yee declared that it’s not up to the USA and European Union to find a solution about the name dispute issue, but this must be done by the parties to the dispute.
Mr. Yee made these comments after his agenda in Skopje, where he held his last meeting with prime minister Nikola Gruevski. Yee added that USA are very much interested on FYROM’s efforts to achieve its goals. “With the government representatives and opposition, we have talked about the joint interest in order to find ways to overcome the barriers that exist, including the name dispute”, declared the senior US official who had meetings today in Skopje with president George Ivanov, prime minister Nikola Gruevski, deputy prime minister for European integrations, Fatmir Besimi, leader of BDI, Ali Ahmeti and leader of opposition LSDM, Zoran Zaev.

Greek Foreign Minister says that Athens takes the same position as Albanians in FYROM on the name dispute. -FYROM news

Howitt MEP demands fresh efforts from Athens and Skopje to resolve the name dispute. -FYROM news

The European Parliament foreign committee voted today the draft resolution of the Euro MP and special raportteur on FYROM, Richard Howitt, which calls for a solution to the name dispute, the opening of negotiations for the accession of FYROM in the EU and the realization of domestic reforms through political consensus.
The resolution is expected to receive the green light next month by the European Parliament. Howitt declared that through this resolution, Athens, in the quality of EU president, must see the solution of the name dispute for FYROM as a priority and not as an obstacle.

Skopje remains open for new incentives and offers to solve the name dispute
In the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), authorities say that they are willing for the name dispute issue of this country to receive a final solution. For this, diplomacy in Skopje promises that it’s open to be involved in talks for new incentives and offers over the solution of the name dispute. US ambassador to FYROM, Paul Volers has declared that it’s dangerous for a nation to form an identity by going back in time.
He has stressed this in the University of Southeast Europe in Tetovo on the occasion of a lecture held for the 50th anniversary of the killing of the former US president, John F. Kennedy.
After a long speech about the killing and the comments on it 50 years later, the US ambassador has also talked about the current issues of FYROM, in particular on the issues of the name dispute.
