WSJ: US warns Gulf states of new airstrikes on Iran after midterms

Washington has told several Gulf Arab countries to prepare for a "short, intense" military campaign against Iran after the November 3 US midterm elections, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing people briefed on the conversations. The messages were passed through diplomatic and military channels.

According to the paper, Trump has not made a final decision but is leaning toward a large post-election attack that could target Iranian infrastructure and nuclear sites.

The US military is moving a Patriot battery from Texas to the region, pulling troops from bases exposed to Iranian fire, restocking munitions and readying bombers and fighter jets. Israel has also prepared plans and targets.

The White House would not confirm an attack was planned, saying only that Trump keeps all options on the table. Tehran has warned through public and private channels that it would respond to any attack with harsh strikes on economic targets across the region.
