New war on Iran could change timeline on government formation in Israel

One potential way for Netanyahu to remain indefinitely as caretaker prime minister would be to launch a new attack on archrival Iran, an analyst warns.

“Of course, there is the very distinct possibility that there will be a resumption of the war with Iran, and if that happens, that could delay the clock,” said Dov Waxman from the University of California, Los Angeles.

“He may well do that. There have been reports before the election that he was pushing Trump for the resumption of the war and they’re planning to resume it after the US midterm elections,” he told Al Jazeera.

“So that is one factor that could change this schedule.”
