U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle resigned from her post on Tuesday, October 13, amidst a controversy over alleged misconduct.
In a lengthy message posted on social media, she thanked U.S. President Donald Trump and reaffirmed her "commitment" to the MAGA movement. She also addressed the controversy surrounding her.
"These accusations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity. I have dedicated my professional life to fighting for justice, standing up for what is right, and protecting the values that make the U.S. an exceptional country. I will not allow false accusations to tarnish my decades of public service," she said.
- Hours earlier, the new White House spokesperson, Katie Zacharia, had confirmed that the administration had asked Guilfoyle to step down.
"We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a great support to the team, and we wish her the best," Zacharia said at a press briefing.
Meanwhile, Trump was asked how surprised he was to learn of the allegations regarding someone who was "almost a member of his family." He replied: "No, she wasn't part of my family. She dated my son a long time ago. She was doing a good job, but we didn't like what we were reading."
