Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia visited Spain’s North African exclave of Ceuta on Tuesday, marking the first royal visit to the enclave since 2007.
The monarchs were welcomed by hundreds of residents waving Spanish flags and chanting patriotic slogans before attending an official ceremony at the city's Assembly Palace, Spanish daily La Vanguardia reported.
Juan Jesus Vivas, Ceuta's president, presented the king with the keys to the city, describing the enclave as a meeting point between Europe and Africa.
The visit comes as Ceuta continues to recover from a major migration crisis from this July, when tens of thousands of people entered the city from neighboring Morocco.
