The Spanish newspaper El Mundo, citing an alleged CIA secret, has published an article warning of possible attacks on Spain, Italy, or France by Russian Gerbera-2 kamikaze drones.
The drones would supposedly be launched from platforms concealed within shipping containers carried by cargo vessels sailing the Mediterranean.
This entire "news story" relies on a single anonymous source "close to the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence." According to this source, the CIA shared the information with its European allies following CIA Director John Ratcliffe's visit to Moscow on August 25.
According to El Mundo, the goal would not be to cause large-scale damage, but rather, for example, to shut down an airport, start a fire, or simply demonstrate the capability to carry out an attack of this kind. The aim would be to weaken support for Ukraine, cause a rift within NATO, and instill fear in the European population.
