President Vladimir Putin announced at a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart in Moscow that Russia will sell gas to Ukraine’s Naftogaz energy company for $268.5 per 1,000 cubic meters, well below the current level of more than $400. Putin said, however, the price may only be lowered temporarily.

Russia should stay out of lending to Cyprus – Deputy PM

Russia cannot afford to rescue European countries suffering from the debt crisis, without first thinking about its domestic needs, says the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov.
­"We need to be very frugal at the moment, very conservative,” Igor Shuvalov told Bloomberg.  
According to Shuvalov, Russia is not prepared to write off a $3.3 billion loan to Cyprus given in 2011. The loan was supposed to last three years, and earlier in January the Russian government announced it would consider granting loan concessions to Cyprus. In 2012 Russia considered a 5bn euro loan requested by Cyprus, but has yet to agree.

Russia to coordinate Cyprus loan decision with EU

Russia said on Friday it would only grant a bailout loan to Cyprus as part of a coordinated rescue with the European Union for the Mediterranean island state, which it said was seeking a total of 20 billion euros in aid.
Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told Reuters that Russia was considering a request for a 5 billion euro loan, and added that Cyprus was seeking a further 15 billion from the EU.
There was no immediate comment from authorities in Nicosia.

Russian loan will not ease Cypriot austerity plan

Cyprus will not ease off fiscal austerity measures required by its European Union partners if it secures a 5-billion-euro loan from Russia, its foreign minister said on Tuesday.
The Mediterranean island, with an economy that generates a little over 17 billion euros in annual gross domestic product, may need 10 billion euros to rescue a financial sector hammered by its exposure to Greek debt.
