Chinese premier favors closer cooperation with Greek region of Crete

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis of the Greek region of Crete here on Saturday, vowing to facilitate closer cooperation between China's local regions and Crete in such areas as trade and agriculture.

Li expressed gratitude to the Greek government and the Cretan people for receiving Chinese nationals when they were evacuated from war-torn Libya in 2011.

"The Greek government as well as the Cretan provincial government responded promptly to our request for help, and Mr. Governor went to the port yourself to receive the first group of Chinese evacuees," Li said.

Greeks hope for a bumper season as the tourists come back

 -- Greek authorities were put on alert on Saturday for the next two days after a 6.2-degree earthquake on the Richter scale jolted the southern Aegean Sea island of Crete.
The strong tremor which hit in early afternoon and was felt in Athens and other areas up to 300 kilometers from its epicenter off the western coast of Crete, caused minor material damages, but no injuries, according to local officials.
An elderly man jumped off a first floor balcony, but was not injured, local media reported, as the General Secretariat for Civil Protection was gathering data on the impact on buildings and infrastructure.

Ισχυρή σεισμική δόνηση 6.4 Ρίχτερ σύμφωνο με το Ευρωμεσογειακό Ινστιτούτο σημειώθηκε στις 4:12 με επίκεντρο 64 χιλιόμετρα δυτικά από τα Χανιά.

Η σεισμική δόνηση ήταν μεγάλης διάρκειας και έγινε ιδιαίτερα αισθητή σε όλη τη νότια Ελλάδα.


Σύμφωνε με Κρητικά ΜΜΕ, ο σεισμός ήταν ιδιαίτερα μεγάλης διάρκειας και σημειώθηκε στη θαλάσσια περιοχή μεταξύ Καστελίου Κισσάμου και Αντικηθύρων.

Το εστιακό του βάθος ήταν 22,9 χιλιόμετρα σύμφωνα με το Γεωδυναμικό Ινστιτούτο του Εθνικού Αστεροσκοπείου Αθηνών και 47 χιλιόμετρα σύμφωνα με το  Ευρωμεσογειακό Ινστιτούτο.

Ισχυρή σεισμική δόνηση μεγέθους 5,9 βαθμών της κλίμακας Ρίχτερ σημειώθηκε στις 19.11 στον θαλάσσιο χώρο νότια της Κρήτης. Σύμφωνα με επίσημη ανακοίνωση του Γεωδυναμικού Ινστιτούτου του Εθνικού Αστεροσκοπείου Αθηνών, ο σεισμός εντοπίζεται 84 χιλιόμετρα νότια νοτιοανατολικά από του Τυμπακίου Ηρακλείου, 143 νότια νοτιοδυτικά της Ιεράπετρας και 483 χιλιόμετρα νότια νοτιοανατολικά της Αθήνας. Το εστιακό βάθος υπολογίζεται στα 10 χιλιόμετρα.

Greece grows on Russians

Tourism arrivals from Russia will register a new record this year as they are expected to reach up to 1 million people, according to the president of the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE), Andreas Andreadis.
Addressing a two-day Greek-Russian tourism forum at Hersonissos on Crete on Monday, he estimated the rise of Russian tourist arrivals this year to top 30 percent from 2011, when they had numbered 740,000, posting growth of 64 percent from the year before.
