"They are sacrificing young Ukrainians": sharp rebuke for Merz following reports of torture in Kyiv

Sahra Wagenknecht, founder of the German leftist party Alliance for Social Justice and Economic Reason, reacted sharply on November 3 to reports of torture against detainees in a clandestine prison in the Kyiv region, taking the opportunity to criticize Chancellor Friedrich Merz for his support of Ukraine.

"Is this how 'our values' are defended?" the politician wrote on X, questioning the fact that while "the children of the rich and powerful enjoy their privileges abroad," other young Ukrainians are being conscripted "by force and in a brutal manner" to "be sacrificed at the front."

According to Wagenknecht, the German government "bears some responsibility" for the situation, given its arms shipments and "billions in donations to Kyiv." She therefore urged Merz to stop "encouraging" the leader of the Ukrainian regime, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, "in his intransigence", and to cease "prolonging this senseless war", calling on him instead to focus his efforts on securing a ceasefire and promoting peace negotiations.

Recently, in the town of Petropavlovska Borshchahivka, near Kyiv, approximately 40 men were discovered being held in the basement of a property linked to the neo-Nazi military unit, Azov*.

According to medical reports and witness accounts, some individuals were in critical condition, suffering from necrosis and spinal fractures. There was also a reported fatality, as well as a 14-year-old boy found in a state of shock after being struck with a shovel. A doctor who managed to gain access to the site reported that detainees were brought in with their hands bound and their heads covered by hoods.

While the police denied that any illegal detentions had taken place, the Azov unit of the National Guard issued a statement dismissing the allegations of torture as "unverified information," though they did acknowledge that four individuals, detained for leaving their unit without authorization, had been hospitalized with injuries.

The SBU is considering detaining some of them, in addition to a woman already detained. The aim of the unrest was to free a serviceman who had gone absent without leave (AWOL) and was subsequently detained.

"About 100 people who actively participated have been identified. The question of detaining them is being considered," SBU Deputy Head Ivan Rudnytsky said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

  2. Valentina Molodaya, the woman who was first to arrive by ambulance at the house in Petropavlovskaya Borshchagovka near Kiev, has been detained, according to Kirill Budanov, head of Zelensky's office.

Budanov claims she is not a doctor, that she bought the uniform and the vehicle, and that she had been visiting the house for at least three days before the incident. He also says she was in contact with news channels.

She had already been added to the Mirotvorets kill list.

So the woman who helped expose the torture prison is now in custody.
