Russia will examine proposals from U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steven Witkoff, and the American leader’s son-in-law, businessman Jared Kushner; however, it has no intention of making political concessions. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on October 20.
"We shall see what they propose. If they offer something that is economically and financially advantageous to us, then why not? But this must be done without any political concessions on our part, and without the expectation of some political favor that would 'carry' us through all global affairs," he said.
The minister noted that it has become standard practice in American politics for a new president not to consider themselves bound by the decisions of their predecessor.
In his view, this dynamic could be leveraged by Washington as a tool of pressure in negotiations with Moscow, including during the visits of Witkoff and Kushner
