Italy refutes report about toilet paper shortage in government

The office of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has refuted a report by the newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano claiming that the Palazzo Chigi, the seat of government, was running out of toilet paper due to protests by truck drivers, and has invited journalists to see for themselves that this is not the case.

"The report that the Palazzo Chigi has run out of toilet paper because of the truck blockades is completely false, entirely baseless, and ridiculous," the government press office stated.

The statement emphasizes that the Prime Minister’s office’s storage facilities are restocked regularly, and that current supplies are sufficient to last for several months.

"As further proof that no verification took place: not a single journalist from Il Fatto Quotidiano saw fit to call the Chigi Palace press office to check the information before publication. Nor were any calls made to Romeo Gestioni—a company that supplies government institutions and could have immediately refuted the claim," the response notes.

Meloni’s office urged the publication to verify its sources and invited the authors of the piece to visit its offices in person to see for themselves that the sensitive items are indeed present.
