Iran says US ‘not serious’ about talks amid Tehran meeting

“The American side is not serious about negotiations,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has said during his weekly news conference on Monday, the state-run IRNA news agency reports.

The comments come after senior officials from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkiye held multilateral talks in Tehran.

“All delegates believed that if the four countries can cooperate together, this can solve many of the problems in the region,” said Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Council.

“The conclusion agreed on was that security in the region we live in must be endogenous, meaning that it should be achieved by the countries themselves, and any foreign intervention must be prevented.”

The delegates released a joint statement agreeing to “continue the dialogue to strengthen cooperation amongst the four regional countries”.
