Elon Musk fears strikes on Starlink satellites by Russian "Nudol" anti-satellite missiles

Elon Musk has expressed concern regarding potential strikes against Starlink satellites. He shared this in a post on the social media platform X.

According to Musk, this is the primary reason why Starlink must remain a civilian service; involving the system in offensive operations could invite retaliatory strikes on its satellite infrastructure, which would lead to dire consequences.

He said this in response to a suggestion that Russia might use "PL-19-181M/Nudol" missiles to strike satellites.

"Nudol" is an anti-missile and anti-space defense system under development by Russia’s Almaz-Antey defense conglomerate. It is equipped with high-speed solid-fuel missiles capable of destroying targets either through direct kinetic impact or, potentially, with a conventional warhead.
