Trump stated that Denmark had handed over control of Greenland's security to the US

"I am pleased to announce that the United States has reached an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland that grants the U.S. permanent control over security matters and all other necessary aspects in Greenland, fully resolving the numerous issues that had been a source of concern for the United States. It will cost the United States nothing!", in a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said.

"At my direction, we worked with representatives of Denmark and Greenland to ensure that the United States retains, in perpetuity, the full capability to do whatever is necessary in Greenland to ensure and protect the security of both Greenland and the United States."

"Furthermore, from now on, no adversary of the United States will ever be able to establish a base in Greenland, maintain a military presence there, or make sensitive investments without our direct written approval."

  •     Denmark agreed to a deal with Washington on Greenland because Copenhagen cannot guarantee the island's security, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday.

"Denmark and Greenland understand that they don't have the financial means necessary to defend Greenland if it were to come under attack or be threatened. The United States has the power to do that," Rubio told Fox News.
