US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has met Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in New York to discuss the future of the US-Iraq partnership, according to the State Department.
“The Secretary and Prime Minister agreed on the importance of Iraq dismantling terrorist militias, preventing attacks from Iraqi territory, and fully exercising its sovereignty,” the department said in a statement.
Earlier on Monday, al-Zaidi said the deadline for armed factions to disarm had been pushed back to June 30, 2027.
