Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on Sunday on Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski's call for NATO to step up military exercises near the Russian province of Kaliningrad.
Speaking to the press, the spokesman noted that it is "evident" the military bloc is preparing for and already conducting "military activities" near the Russian enclave.
For this reason, he said, Moscow is taking "necessary measures" to ensure the security of the territory, which shares a land border with Poland and Lithuania.
On Friday, the Polish Foreign Minister proposed that NATO conduct "aggressive" maneuvers near Kaliningrad to boost deterrence against Russia and maintain uncertainty regarding the Atlantic Alliance's potential response.
"I propose that we conduct exercises on our side that are so aggressive that he [Russian President Vladimir Putin] is unsure exactly what we will do," he said.
