Projectile hits Iranian commercial vessel in Strait of Hormuz, killing one, injuring four

  An Iranian commercial container ship was hit by an unidentified projectile early Sunday near Hengam Island in the Strait of Hormuz, killing one crew member and injuring four others, according to the governor of Iran’s Qeshm Island.

Hossein Amir-Teymouri said the vessel was operating in the Strait of Hormuz, near Hengam Island, when the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

He said the ship was a commercial container carrier with 10 crew members aboard at the time of the incident.

According to the information released so far, one crew member, identified as Jamshid Rajabi, was killed after the projectile struck the vessel, while four other crew members sustained injuries.

Amir-Teymouri said the incident took place near Hengam Island within the Strait of Hormuz and that an investigation into the circumstances was underway.

He stressed that the projectile involved in the incident was unidentified and that further details regarding its origin, nature and the circumstances surrounding the strike had not yet been released.
