Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei explained on Wednesday why his country's delegation did not walk out of the UN General Assembly hall during the speech by U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he leveled slanders and threats against the Persian nation.
"There has been debate as to why the Iranian delegation did not walk out of the session en masse. For diplomats, Iran's seat is sacrosanct," Baghaei stated in an interview with local media.
"Iran's place in a forum like the United Nations General Assembly is our stronghold, and undoubtedly, had we abandoned that stronghold due to the harsh rhetoric, ill temper, and slander of others, we would have failed to fulfill our duty," he concluded.
