Delcy Rodríguez gives details of her "historic meeting" with Trump

Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, described her meeting this Tuesday with U.S. President Donald Trump in New York as "historic"—taking place nearly nine months after the U.S. armed incursion into the South American nation that resulted in the abduction of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, lawmaker Cilia Flores.

"We held a historic meeting with United States President Donald Trump, discussing the strengthening of the bilateral relationship between our countries and the advancement of a cooperation agenda in strategic areas such as energy, mining, security, and other matters of mutual interest," Rodríguez wrote on social media.

The leader noted that Caracas and Washington share a historic relationship that, in this new phase, they are called upon to steer through dialogue. "We will continue to promote a diplomacy that serves the national interest, aimed at achieving concrete results and collective benefits for the Venezuelan people," she added.
