Argentina sanctions Spanish vessel for illegal fishing

The South American country's Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries imposed a $1.2 million fine on the Spanish-flagged fishing vessel "Farruco" for operating without authorization within Argentina's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Atlantic.

In a statement, the agency noted that this is the fifth foreign-flagged vessel fined for illegal fishing so far this year, adding that the sanctions are "part of a zero-tolerance policy" regarding this practice.
