UK sends destroyer, helicopters to Cyprus after Iran attacks

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer says that the UK is sending helicopters with counter-drone capabilities to Cyprus and deploying the air defence destroyer naval vessel HMS Dragon to the region.

“The UK is fully committed to the security of Cyprus and British military personnel based there,” said Starmer in a post on social media.

“We’re continuing our defensive operations and I’ve just spoken with the President of Cyprus to let him know that we are sending helicopters with counter drone capabilities and HMS Dragon is to be deployed to the region.”

  1. The United Kingdom has deployed additional F-35 fighter jets, air defense systems and radars to its Akrotiri air base in Cyprus following a drone strike, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said on Tuesday.
"We have already increased the deployment with additional defensive capabilities, including radars, F-35 jets and air defense and counter drone systems. And we work closely with the Cypriot government as well on safety and security issues," Cooper told the parliament.
