EU naval mission issues shipping alert over Houthi support for Iran

The EU naval mission in the Red Sea says it is closely monitoring the situation after what it describes as increased Houthi support for Iran.

In a series of posts on X, Operation Aspides said it had issued updated guidance to the shipping industry, urging vessels to register and seek support to pass through maritime security channels.

The mission said its assets remain deployed and vigilant in the area of operations as it continues its mandate to protect commercial shipping and ensure freedom of navigation in the region.

  1. Houthi attacks on Israel ‘a warning’, not full participation

Nabeel Khoury, a former US diplomat, says the missile attacks launched by the Houthis against Israel amounted to “token participation, not full participation”.

“They have fired a couple of missiles as a warning because of all the talk of potential escalation – there are US troops on their way to the region. There’s been talk that if there is no agreement, there might be a full-scale attack on Iran as has not been seen so far,” the former deputy chief of mission in Yemen told Al Jazeera.
