France condemns Yemen’s Houthis for entering Middle East war

France has denounced two attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Israeli targets, accusing the armed group of escalating tensions in the Middle East by entering the US-Israeli war on Iran.

A Houthi spokesman said the Iranian-backed group fired missiles and drones towards “several vital and military sites” in Israel on Saturday, the same day Israel said it had intensified attacks on Iran’s military industry.

“The Houthis should abstain from all attacks,” French Foreign Ministry spokesman Pascal Confavreux said. He accused the Houthis of being “irresponsible”.

Confavreux said everything should be done “to avoid an even greater escalation of the conflict”, which has killed thousands across the region and sent energy markets into a tailspin.
