Foreign Ministry in Skopje reacts against the newly appointed US ambassador. - Had named the FYROM majority population as “Slavs” (FYROM news)

By Naser Pajaziti

Foreign Ministry of FYROM reacted today against the newly appointed US ambassador to Skopje, Jess Baily...

The reaction comes as a result of the fact that ambassador Baily, who is soon expected to start his mission in Skopje, had named the FYROM majority population as “Slavs” in the September 17 hearing in front of the foreign policy committee in the US Senate.

Foreign Ministry in Skopje has summoned today the vice US ambassador to Skopje in order to explain the declaration of ambassador Baily, who is expected to start his duty next month.

“This naming puts a question mark to the identity and hurts the feelings of the FYROM people. At the same time, such naming is inappropriate for the  FYROM people and it could have negative implications in the aspect of foreign and domestic policies”, says the reaction of the Foreign Ministry in Skopje. Ambassador Baily has declared that FYROM’s population consists of Slavs and Albanian ethnics, while he has not used the phrase “FYROMian people”.

Up until now, Baily has been vice ambassador of USA in Turkey, while in Skopje, he will replace the current US ambassador, Paul Wohlers. /ibna/
