In Bulgaria, living conditions for asylum-seekers improves, but gaps remain. - UN agency

UN,  15 April 2014 – The United Nations refugee agency applauded today the “significant efforts” made recently by the Bulgarian authorities and their partners to improve living conditions for asylum seekers in the country.

While planning to lift its January call to temporarily suspend the transfer of refugees from European countries back to Bulgaria (under the Dublin Regulation), the UN Office of the High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) stresses that “serious gaps” in the system remain, and warns against transferring individuals or groups considered most vulnerable.

UNHCR: Halt Transfers of Asylum-Seekers Back to Bulgaria

UNHCR has urged states participating in the Dublin Regulation to temporarily suspend transfers of asylum-seekers back to Bulgaria, saying they risk inhuman or degrading treatment.

Asylum-seekers in Bulgaria face a genuine risk of inhuman or degrading treatment due to systemic deficiencies in reception conditions and asylum procedures, the agency concluded in a position paper, issued on January 2.

Κλίμα εκφοβισμού των μέσων ενημέρωσης επικρατεί στην ΠΓΔΜ, σύμφωνα με τον ειδικό εισηγητή του ΟΗΕ για το δικαίωμα της ελευθερίας της έκφρασης, Φράνγκ Λα Ρου, ο οποίος πραγματοποίησε τριήμερη επίσκεψη στα Σκόπια, όπου είχε συναντήσεις με κυβερνητικούς παράγοντες και εκπροσώπους δημοσιογραφικών ενώσεων.

Η κριτική στην κυβέρνηση και σε κυβερνητικούς αξιωματούχους δεν γίνεται ανεκτή στη γειτονική χώρα σύμφωνα με τον κ. Λα Ρου, ο οποίο; Αναφέρθηκε και στο λουκέτο που μπήκε στον μεγαλύτερο τηλεοπτικό σταθμό «Α1», αλλά και σε κάποιες εφημερίδες.

Για μία ακόμη φορά ο Πρόεδρος Ομπάμα δεν μίλησε για Αρμενική Γενοκτονία

Ο Πρόεδρος Μπάρακ Ομπάμα επέλεξε για μία ακόμη φορά να “χαιδέψει” την Τουρκία για την Αρμενική Γενοκτονία, μή εκστομίζοντας τις δύο λέξεις, σε μήνυμα του με την ευκαιρία της μαύρης επετείου από τη σφαγή των Αρμενίων, που διέπραξαν οι ορδές του τουρκικού Αττίλα. Ο Λευκός Οίκος και ο κ. Ομπάμα χαρακτηρίζουν με την Αρμενική Γενοκτονία ως μια από τις μεγαλύτερες αγριότητες του 20ου αιώνα, αλλλά οι Αρμένιοι της Αμερικής δεν είναι ικανοποιημένοι καθώς προεκλογικά τους είχε υποσχεθεί ότι σαν Πρόεδρος θα καταδίκαζε τις σφαγές που διέπραξαν οι Τούρκοι. Αναφέρεται σε 1,5 εκατομμύριο Αρμένιους που σφαγιάστηκαν ή οδηγήθηκαν στο θάνατο και όπως αναφέρει τιμά μαζί με όλο τον κόσμο τη μνήμη τους.
