Greece toughens anti-racism law after long debate. (Punishment is meted to those denying or praising the Holocaust, genocide and war crimes against humanity)

Greece on Sept. 9 ratcheted up its punishments for racism, anti-Semitism and hate speech, in a move prompted by the surprise rise of a neo-Nazi party.
     
A new law approved by parliament sets prison sentences of up to three years -- up from two years -- and fines of up to 20,000 euros ($26,000) for "inciting acts of discrimination, hatred or violence" over race, religion or disability.
     
Similar punishment is meted to those denying or praising the Holocaust, genocide and war crimes against humanity.

EU 'strongly' condemns attacks by militants in Iraq ("some of these acts" may constitute crimes against humanity)

The European Union on Sunday strongly condemn the latest attacks by the so called "Islamic State" (IS) and other armed groups in Iraq.

"We are appalled by the rapid deterioration of the humanitarian situation with hundreds of thousands civilians, mainly from minorities, fleeing the areas of conflict as a result of persecution and violation of basic human rights," the European External Action Service (EEAS), the EU's foreign policy arm said in a statement.

The EEAS noted that some of these acts may constitute crimes against humanity and must be investigated swiftly, so that the perpetrators are held accountable.

Serbian officials react to prosecutor's report. "Too much time has passed, and still there's no justice for the victims..."

BELGRADE -- Government's Kosovo Office head Marko Đurić says Serbia "welcomes any activity that leads to uncovering of war crimes and their perpetrators."...

He made the statement on Tuesday after an EU special team announced that they found no evidence hundreds of Serbs from Kosovo were kidnapped to have their organs removed, and added that the country "can be satisfied only when there are final verdicts that will bring to justice those who committed crimes in Kosovo."
According to him, a lack of progress on these issues is "in nobody's interest - not for Serbs nor Albanians nor the international community" while "we can be satisfied only once final judgments are passed."
