PM Erdoğan’s agent accusation on CNN reporter "ridiculous" (State Department)

Washington June 3 dismissed Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s accusations targeting CNN International correspondent Ivan Watson over his coverage on the Gezi protests. Erdoğan questioned CNN’s impartiality, labeling Watson “an agent” and blasting him for “wanting to stir up trouble in Turkey.”

“This is a ridiculous accusation,” U.S. Department of State Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf said during a daily press briefing on June 3.

At least 120 detained on Gezi protests anniversary

Around 120 people have been detained in Istanbul as police intervened to disperse protester groups gathered to mark the anniversary of last year's Gezi Park protests, said Istanbul Police Chief Selami Altınok late Saturday.
Speaking to reporters at Istanbul's Taksim Square, he said four police officers were wounded including a deputy police chief.
One of the officers were injured by bullet while the deputy police chief was wounded by a molotov cocktail thrown by protesters.

Turkish PM, Tayyip Erdogan, warns youth to ignore Taksim anniversary

Turkish police were already mobilising to face down marches announced for today.

It comes as opposition sympathisers mourn the death of a 64-year-old Turkish woman, who had fallen into a coma, during a crackdown on protesters in December.

"One year later, people, including so-called artists, are calling for demonstrations, but you, Turkey's youth, you will not respond to the call," Mr Erdogan told a crowd of a thousand young people in Istanbul.

The European Union released its progress report on Turkey yesterday, with anti-government Gezi protests in June putting a mark on crucial parts of the document, including democracy and the rule of law, financial services and media.

The report also highlights a number of important steps taken by Turkey over the past 12 months, notably the adoption of a fourth judicial reform package and the start of a peace process to end militancy and violence in the southeast of the country. 

FYROM News: Citizens of FYROM Divided Over President’s Support for Erdogan

The president’s declaration of support for Turkish premier Erdogan, the target of sustained protests in recent weeks, has drawn both praise and condemnation from citizens of FYROM.

There has been widespread reaction in FYROM to a statement by President George Ivanov offering strong support to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan over the recent anti-government protests in his country.
While some were quick to back Ivanov’s solidarity with a friendly leader, others criticised him for endorsing a premier who is being accused of curbing democratic freedoms.
“Mr. Erdogan should not be troubled [by the protests] and should resist,” Ivanov said on Friday, the Turkish Anatolia news agency reported.

OHRID (AA) - President of FYROM Gjorge Ivanov said that Macedonia was with Turkish PM Erdogan regarding Gezi Park protests. 

Ivanov received the Chairman of Turkish International Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Serdar Cam on Thursday.
Ivanov stressed that they were closely following the Gezi Park oriented process, saying, "PM Erdogan should not feel sorry, but should resist. Regarding Gezi Park protests, some countries made political games which is known by everyone."

Turkish deputy prime minister denies remarks on 'Jewish diaspora'

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Beşir Atalay has denied media reports that he blamed the Jewish diaspora for the Gezi unrest.

Atalay’s press office said in a written statement today that the minister had not used such an expression.

“There are some circles that are jealous of Turkey’s growth. They are all uniting, on one side the Jewish diaspora,” Cihan News Agency quoted him in a video as saying on July 1 in the Central Anatolian province of Kırıkkale in an earlier report.

Before the statement from Atalay’s office, the Turkish Jewish community issued a press release on its website, saying they were trying to obtain more information about the remarks with regard to the details, meaning and content.

A graduation ceremony at the Police Academy offered a unique opportunity to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for hailing and encouraging the national police, as he said the Turkish police had written a “heroic saga” during the Gezi Park interventions.

“We will not let circles who have been adversaries of Turkey or international and national media to wear down our police. I and my government congratulate our police wholeheartedly. On behalf of my country and nation, I would like to thank all my police siblings for standing up against incidents that have been going on for weeks, with sacrifice and patriotism,” Erdoğan said in a speech delivered at the ceremony on June 24.

Media outlets in Turkey and Germany upped the severity of language of new reporting, amid rising tension between the countries that followed Berlin initiative to halt Turkey’s European Union bid.

The two have been in conflict since German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s statements on the ongoing Gezi Protests, and the daily newspapers of both countries have decided to join in.

German Bild carried Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on its cover with the caption “New Dictator,” depicting Erdoğan with a Hitler-like moustache. The cover was then featured on the front page of Turkish daily Takvim, who itself dubbed Merkel a “Nazi.”

On Friday, Turkish police fired teargas and water cannon at people protesting government plans to uproot trees in an Istanbul (Constantinople) park, igniting a furious protest that turned into an anti-government demonstration which spread to other cities.

All eyes on Taksim as crowds start to gather for meeting at 7 pm

Crowds are gathering in Istanbul’s Taksim square on a call from the Taksim Solidarity Platform for a meeting at 7 p.m. following an all-day police intervention in central Istanbul.

The platform, an initiative organized to prevent a development project in Istanbul’s Taksim Gezi Park, has called on everyone to support the ongoing protest at Gezi Park.

The platform voiced its concerns over the police intervention at Taksim and Gezi Park today, saying that none of the protesters demands had been realized by now, in a statement posted on its Facebook page.
