Council of Europe cautions France over increase in xenophobic, hateful rhetoric

Experts from the Council of Europe (CoE) published a report Tuesday expressing concern over increasing hate speech, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in France.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a commentary over a statement by the Council of Europe's European Commission Against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) about the infringement of the rights of Tatars and Ukrainian speakers in Crimea, Interfax reports.

"We are stunned and bewildered by the ECRI statement about the alleged discrimination against Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians in Crimea, citing credible claims on that score," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website on Wednesday.

Πλημμελής ή ανύπαρκτη είναι η εφαρμογή στην Ελλάδα των συστάσεων της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής κατά του Ρατσισμού και της Ξενοφοβίας (ECRI) για την αντιμετώπιση της ρατσιστικής βίας και την προστασία των θυμάτων καθώς και για το σύστημα έκδοσης και ανανέωσης αδειών παραμονής σε αλλοδαπούς, όπως διαπιστώνει η Επιτροπή.
Σχετικά με σύσταση της ECRI το 2009 και η οποία αφορούσε στη διασφάλιση ότι ο Συνήγορος του Πολίτη θα μπορούσε να παρέχει βοήθεια και συνδρομή στα θύματα ρατσιστικής βίας στην Ελλάδα, η Επιτροπή συμπεραίνει ότι μέχρι σήμερα ο διαμεσολαβητής δεν έχει την εξουσία να εκπροσωπεί ή να παρέχει νομική βοήθεια στα θύματα.
