Poland will transfer to Ukraine an AWACS aircraft purchased from Sweden

Sweden will one of these days supply Poland with a Saab 340 AEW airborne early warning aircraft (AWACS), which will be transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Polish Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh told reporters.

German chancellor backs NATO-Russia dialogue

Chancellor Angela Merkel has said permanent security in Europe could be achieved with Russia, not by going against it.

In her address at Bundestag ahead of a NATO summit in the Polish capital Warsaw, Merkel backed a NATO-Russia council meeting, scheduled to take place on July 13 for easing up tensions in Europe.

NATO's E-3A early warning aircraft starts mission over Romania

An E-3A AWACS plane of NATO on Tuesday started to fly over Romania, as part of a scheduled exercise conducted periodically to train air police troops and hardware, according to Romania's Defense Ministry.

However, a NATO spokesman was quoted by media as saying that NATO's reconnaissance flights over Romania and Poland are meant to monitor the situation in Ukraine.

NATO to fly AWACS over Poland, Romania to monitor Ukraine crisis

NATO will start AWACS reconnaissance flights over Poland and Romania to help monitor the crisis in Ukraine, the alliance said on Monday.

NATO ambassadors, acting on a recommendation from the alliance's top military commander US Air ForceGen. Philip Breedlove, gave the go-ahead to the flights on Monday, a NATO spokesman said.
