In an interview with i24NEWS, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, attributed the decision to attack Iran to the United States and rejected the notion that his country should be held responsible for the war or for the rise in energy prices in the U.S.
"We know that the decision to attack Iran was made by the United States. It was not our decision. We support the United States' efforts. We believe it was the right decision," he stated, responding to a post by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, in which Vance discusses the reasons for the Republican defeat in the midterm elections, citing, among other factors, the war with Iran and the relationship with Israel.
Danon expressed regret that the rise in prices, particularly of oil, was being linked to the situation in Israel. "It is very easy to always blame Israel for everything, but that is not the case," he maintained.
When asked about the possibility that Donald Trump might seek an agreement with Tehran that fails to meet Israel’s security demands, he replied that such a decision rested with the U.S. president himself. "We will always do whatever is necessary to protect ourselves," he asserted.
He added that Washington has its own interests and that Tehran poses a threat not only to Israel but also to U.S. targets in the Middle East, as well as to U.S. embassies and personnel.
