Ali Bagheri, Deputy Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated that strategic cooperation between Tehran and Moscow will make it possible to neutralize the expectations of certain powers, such as the United States, to exert pressure on the Islamic Republic.
According to Iranian media reports on November 6, Bagheri highlighted two specific strategic projects: the supply of Russian gas to Iran and the International North-South Transport Corridor.
In this regard, he asserted that both initiatives "will dispel the false illusions held by certain powers, including the United States, about the possibility of keeping the Islamic Republic of Iran under pressure."
The official emphasized that these projects can contribute not only to the development of Iran and the region, but also to the strengthening of their security. Furthermore, he noted that Tehran possesses significant economic capabilities that it can leverage to counter external pressures.
The International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) is a multimodal network connecting India with Russia and Northern Europe via Iran, utilizing maritime, rail, and land routes. Its objective is to facilitate the transport of goods, reduce logistics times and costs, and strengthen trade exchanges between South Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
Meanwhile, Russia agreed in 2024 to supply Iran with 90 advanced missile launchers, according to a report on Friday in the Financial Times, citing documents from a major Russian defence manufacturer, as Moscow confirms its close relations with Tehran.
The launchers are designed to carry Russia’s light multipurpose guided missile, known as the LMUR. The precision weapon – capable of striking moving targets – has been widely used in Ukraine since 2022. They are built for Russia’s Mi-28 attack helicopters, which Iran has already acquired.
