Axios reports on Vance’s unsuccessful attempts to influence Trump

According to the news outlet Axios, citing its own sources, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has for the past few months been pushing for the pursuit of peace agreements with Iran. Nevertheless, the head of state has decided to set this matter aside.

It is noted that Vance led a group of Trump’s advisors who advocated for resolving the conflict with Iran. In private conversations, Vance expressed disagreement with the stance taken by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding Iran, describing it as misguided. He also voiced concerns that a protracted conflict could negatively affect the Republicans' election prospects.

Sources report that Vance’s views were shared by most of the key figures in Trump’s inner circle. Nevertheless, the president leaned toward continuing military action. At one point, the possibility of launching strikes before the midterm elections, a course of action pushed for by Netanyahu, was under consideration.

Despite the decision to hold off on military action, Trump, contrary to the advice of his closest aides—threw his support behind Netanyahu during the recent Israeli elections.
