"They must pay": Macron promises a tough stance against those who caused destruction during the protests

French President Emmanuel Macron vowed on Sunday to take firm action against those responsible for the unrest that took place on Saturday in several cities across the country.

"Those who destroyed must pay. Those who looted must make restitution," he declared in an address to the nation, in which he also demanded that those who sought to "bring down the Republic" be held accountable for their actions.

The president stated that far-left groups, joined by criminals, attacked town halls, shops, and other facilities.

Among the incidents, he cited the burning of the Limoges town hall, damage to the Lyon tourist office, the storming of the Marseille town hall, and an attack on the prefect’s residence in Bordeaux. He also expressed his support for security forces, local officials, and the business owners who were affected.
