Taiwan will tighten export controls on artificial intelligence chips destined for China, seeking to align itself more closely with the restrictions imposed by the United States on the Asian giant.
Taiwan’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Kung Ming-hsin, stated to Bloomberg this week that Taipei intends to include artificial intelligence servers and cutting-edge semiconductors on its list of controlled items.
"From now on, some of our measures regarding controlled items will be aligned with those of the United States, given that we have made several commitments under the Reciprocal Trade Agreement," the minister explained, referring to the trade deal signed this year between the Chinese island and the United States—though he did not provide details regarding when the new restrictions would take effect.
