The Mecca alliance talks with Iran are a welcome development that looks to create some form of “post-US security framework” in the Middle East, says analyst Nawaf Obaid.
The meetings in Tehran between senior officials from Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Iran will help mitigate future threats, including the possibility of new US and Israeli strikes, added the senior research fellow at King’s College London.
“Unless there is a miscalculation from the Iranians or the Israelis at this point, I do not think that the Americans have any aim to re-engage,” Obaid told Al Jazeera.
