Kim Yo-jong, sister of Kim Jong-un and a department director within the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), has threatened South Korea with retaliatory measures should it pose a threat to the security of the DPRK or its military personnel along the border.
On Wednesday, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Marshal Pak Jong-chon, an advisor to the DPRK Ministry of National Defence, had inspected key fortification construction sites along the southern border earlier on Tuesday, accompanied by Kim Yo-jong. In a statement, Kim Yo-jong corrected the agency’s error, clarifying that her visit to the border had actually taken place on Wednesday.
"If the enemy’s provocative shots go beyond mere warnings and cause actual harm to the security of our territory or the personal safety of our military personnel, our border guards will ruthlessly annihilate these deranged armed bandits," stated Kim Yo Jong, according to a report released on Wednesday by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
Kim Yo-jong explained that South Korea continues to engage in provocations by broadcasting provocative warnings via loudspeakers and firing warning shots.
She emphasized that the DPRK is currently exercising maximum restraint while thoroughly preparing for any potential turn of events; however, she noted that if the DPRK were to also open warning fire, the situation on the Korean Peninsula would inevitably escalate.
