Berlin intends to purchase Ukrainian "Bars" cruise missiles, which are manufactured at a joint Ukrainian-German facility in Germany, the Financial Times reports.
The missiles have a range of up to 1,000 km and are capable of carrying a payload of up to 105 kg. They were developed in Ukraine, and their production, with financial support from Berlin, has also been established on German soil.
The first batch of German-made missiles was delivered to Ukraine in October of this year. Now, Berlin intends to acquire the "Bars" [missiles] for its own armed forces. Testing is scheduled for early 2027. If these tests prove successful, Germany may place an order for several hundred of the missiles.
As the publication notes, this would mark the first known instance of the Bundeswehr procuring offensive weaponry developed in Ukraine. In reality, however, the missiles are Ukrainian in name only. The Germans financed them, manufactured them, labeled the missiles as "Ukrainian", and now they even intend to purchase them.
