Vance responds to those accusing Trump of bribing voters with his $5,000 promise

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance defended on Wednesday President Donald Trump's pledge to provide a $5,000 dividend to every adult citizen if voters help Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress in the November elections.

During an interview with Fox News at the Republican convention in Dallas, journalist Bret Baier noted that the payout would amount to approximately $1.3 billion and said that the president's critics would question the source of those funds.

He stated that critics view the measure as tantamount to "bribing voters" to secure victories in the House and Senate and argue it would "bankrupt the country," exacerbating the deficit, inflation, and the debt, which, according to the Treasury Department, stands at $40 billion.

In response to such criticism, Vance clarified that the benefit would be aimed "first and foremost" at "American workers" and funded by revenue from the tariffs the U.S. has been imposing.

"Those tariffs have generated a lot of revenue," the Vice President asserted. If voters "keep us in power and allow us to keep doing these things, then they are going to share in the benefits of this incredible wealth we are creating," he noted, explaining Trump's approach.

With less than two months to go before the election, the president's approval rating is at a historic low, while Democrats are leading Republicans.
