UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and welcomed diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in the Middle East, according to the UN chief’s press service.
The secretary-general welcomed the diplomatic efforts undertaken during the High-level Week of the United Nations General Assembly aimed at bringing the conflict to an end, the statement said.
The UN chief also called on the parties to continue their efforts to resolve the conflict and resolve outstanding differences through negotiations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi has told UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that Tehran will not abandon its pursuit of justice against the orchestrators of “war crimes”, referring specifically to the US and Israel.
“The Iranian nation will never give up on demanding justice, holding accountable, and punishing the orchestrators and perpetrators of war crimes by the US and the Zionist regime,” Araghchi told Guterres in a meeting on Monday, according to the Tasnim report.
