A Ukrainian lawmaker said Friday that a Russian drone struck two Soviet-era passenger planes at Kyiv's Zhulyany airport ahead of a possible visit to the Ukrainian capital by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Aleksey Goncharenko, a member of parliament, said on Telegram that Witkoff and Kushner were expected to travel to Kyiv on Sunday after visiting Moscow on Saturday.
“They were to arrive at Boryspil by plane. This was at the stage of an agreement. The Americans were skeptical, but they were close enough to agree,” he said.
Goncharenko said two old Soviet Yak-40 passenger planes were struck at Zhulyany airport, adding that the aircraft "had not been flying even before the war."
