 The IRGC reported that it had struck a Togo-flagged tanker that was attempting to make an "illegal passage" through the Strait of Hormuz.

The IRGC Navy stated that the vessel caught fire and was brought to a halt following the attack.

It is alleged that the tanker attempted to navigate this waterway without Iranian authorization, having succumbed to "incitement and deception" by the US military.
