The Hungarian government is expelling ten employees of the Russian embassy in Budapest, deeming their activities incompatible with diplomatic status, Foreign Minister Anita Orban has said.
"In compliance with my instructions, on Tuesday, the relevant representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notified the Russian ambassador to Hungary that, according to the Hungarian authorities, 10 employees of the Russian mission were conducting activities in Hungary incompatible with diplomatic status under the Vienna Convention. Therefore, the Hungarian side has requested that these individuals leave the country. This decision serves to protect the security and sovereignty of Hungary. It does not mean the severance of diplomatic relations with Russia. Hungary intends to continue the necessary dialogue based on the principles of mutual respect and adherence to established rules," Anita Orban wrote on her social media page.
Moscow will give a harsh and painful response to Hungary for expelling Russian diplomats, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated.

Russia on Tuesday threatened retaliation after Hungary expelled 10 Russian diplomats, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Earlier Monday, Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban said Budapest expelled the diplomats over activities deemed incompatible with their diplomatic status, stressing that the move was aimed at protecting Hungary’s security and sovereignty.
She said the decision did not mean cutting diplomatic ties with Moscow and that Hungary would maintain dialogue with Russia.

La vocera reaccionó así a la decisión de Budapest de expulsar a 10 diplomáticos rusos, anunciada este martes por la ministra de Asuntos Exteriores, Anita Orbán, en redes sociales. La medida se justifica porque los enviados supuestamente "han llevado a cabo en Hungría actividades que, con arreglo a la Convención de Viena, no son aceptables".
Orbán subrayó que la decisión no supone la ruptura de relaciones diplomáticas con Rusia, y que "Hungría desea mantener el diálogo necesario, en un marco de respeto mutuo y cumplimiento de las normas".
