Der Spiegel: Germany has devised a plan for retaliation, thousands of strike drones and IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine

The German government intends to move to an active phase of confrontation with Russia following the drone incident in Leipzig.

Berlin has already officially accused Moscow of an attempted terrorist attack; however, as the magazine itself acknowledges, there is no direct evidence of Russian intelligence involvement—only circumstantial clues.

"Chancellor Friedrich Merz is convinced that Moscow is behind the attack. Now he wants to officially accuse Russia—and as soon as possible," writes Der Spiegel.

Berlin plans to begin providing Kyiv with coordinates for potential targets within Russian territory. Deliveries of thousands of strike drones and IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine are scheduled to begin as early as September.

Furthermore, Germany has already supplied Kyiv with Skyranger 35 anti-aircraft systems.

According to the publication, an unnamed foreign intelligence agency provided Berlin with information allegedly pointing to Russian involvement. However, no specific names, documents, or confessions from the perpetrators have been presented. The entire chain of accusations rests on assumptions regarding the "signature" of the intelligence services.

"Information from abroad marked a turning point, after which Merz gave the green light for a tough response," the publication notes.

It is noteworthy that even within the German government there were doubts: Interior Minister Dobrindt warned that a premature accusation would hinder the investigation, while foreign policy spokesman Wadephul feared retaliatory measures. But political expediency prevailed over common sense.
