France captures alleged Russian shadow tanker off Sicily as UK plans to sell seized oil

 French President Emmanuel Macron has said that the country's navy detained the Deliver tanker near Sicily, which he claims is part of the so-called Russian shadow fleet.

Meanwhile, The Daily Telegraph reported, citing sources, that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was considering selling over 100,000 metric tons of oil from the Smyrtos tanker seized in the English Channel and transferring the funds to the Ukrainian armed forces.

    On June 14, the United Kingdom detained the Cameroon-flagged tanker Smyrtos in the English Channel. Britain claims the vessel is linked to Russia. The Russian Embassy in London said that there were no Russian citizens on board the tanker. On Wednesday, citing sources, the Telegraph reported that London wants to sell 100,000 tonnes of oil from the seized Smyrtos tanker and use the funds to support Ukraine.

    “On Tuesday, the French navy boarded the oil tanker Deliver as it was passing off the coast of Sicily in breach of the law of the sea,” Macron posted on X.
