US ,Trump mulls new strikes on Iran: US media

The reports, from CBS and Axios, come just hours after US President Donald Trump said he would not travel to attend his son's wedding this weekend due to "circumstances pertaining to government" and his "love for the United States of America."

Trump said that it was "important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time."No final decision on strikes had been reached as of Friday afternoon, the TV channel added. Axios reported earlier that US President Donald Trump is leaning toward further strikes against Iran due to frustration with the progress of negotiations.

The American leader held a meeting on Friday morning with the participation of Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and other members of the administration, during which he was briefed on the status of the negotiations and the different scenarios if talks collapse, according to sources.

A source close to Trump and a second source with knowledge of the situation told Axios that Trump had grown increasingly frustrated about the negotiations with Iran over the past several days.

  2. Russia’s envoy to international organisations in Geneva has said that the Iranian assessment of talks to end the war is likely closer to reality than that of the US, which he suggested has portrayed more progress than exists.

Mikhail Ulyanov, an outspoken ambassador who frequently posts on global affairs on X, said: “Iranian assessments are closer to actual state of affairs.”

He added that US messaging at this stage is “less responsible”.

  3. "A source close to Trump said the president has raised the possibility of a final ‘decisive’ major military operation, after which he could declare victory and end the war," Axios wrote. Trump "is seriously considering launching new strikes against Iran barring a last-minute breakthrough in negotiations," sources said.

  4. The National Iranian American Council (NIAC) has warned that “escalating the war on Iran rather than taking an off-ramp would be wrong morally, strategically and politically”.

“A diplomatic off-ramp is available,” the group wrote on X, in response to a US media report that the Trump administration is preparing for potential strikes on Iran if negotiations to secure a deal fail.

“A clear majority of the American public and possible majority of Congress wants President Trump to take it. We hope the new drum beats are not signs that Washington is going to double down on a foolish war,” NIAC said.

  5. CBS reported, citing unnamed sources, that members of the US military and intelligence apparatus were cancelling holiday weekend plans in anticipation of possible strikes.

  6. Jason Campbell, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute, notes that Trump has repeatedly said that the US-Israel war on Iran will be over “soon”.

Trump made similar remarks a few hours ago, telling a crowd of supporters during a speech in New York state that “it’ll be over with soon”.

But despite the rhetoric, Campbell said the world is largely in “wait-and-see mode” as to whether a deal can actually be reached amid a flurry of diplomacy in Tehran.

Campbell added that the Trump administration appears to face more pressure to de-escalate the situation than Iran does.

  7. : Dan Scavino, Trump's Deputy Chief of Staff, just posted a video of B-2 stealth bombers.

Last time Scavino posted B-2 footage, the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran the next day.

Iran is jamming GPS across the region. U.S. tankers are positioning in the Gulf. Trump imposed a press lid tonight.
