Reuters and The Associated Press are both reporting that US forces shot down four Iranian attack drones around the Strait of Hormuz, citing unnamed US officials.
The US military also struck a ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was about to launch a fifth drone, the news agencies reported.
“These actions were measured, purely defensive and intended to maintain the ceasefire,” an unnamed US official told Reuters.
According to AP, the four drones were assessed by the US military as posing a threat to its forces.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s navy fired on a US tanker that “tried to pass through the Strait of Hormuz by turning off its radar system”, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reports, citing an “informed military source”.
Tasnim also reports that the US then fired in response “at a scorched area around Bandar Abbas”.
“The sound of the explosions was related to this incident” and “did not cause any casualties or property damage”, Tasnim adds on the Telegram messaging platform.

The announcement followed an earlier incident where the US military was said to have targeted an area on the outskirts of Bandar Abbas.
The IRGC also said that any “aggression will not go unanswered”, adding that further military actions will face a “more decisive” response.
