Iran Guards deny any commercial ships crossed Strait of Hormuz

Iran's revolutionary guards have rejected US claims that two commercial ships had crossed the Strait of Hormuz in the past few hours as "baseless and complete lies", Tasnim state media reported.

The US military said Monday that two American-flagged merchant ships had successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz after it launched a new plan to restore traffic.

Iran has effectively closed the critical waterway since the U.S. and Israel launched the war in late February. President Trump's new initiative to break Iran's chokehold has escalated the standoff.

The US military denied Iran's claims that it had struck an American Navy vessel. The United Arab Emirates meanwhile issued its first missile alert since a ceasefire reached in early April and accused Iran of targeting an oil tanker.

  1. US guided-missile destroyers have entered the Gulf as part of a mission to escort ships through the vital Strait of Hormuz waterway, the US military has said.

The warships "are currently operating in the Arabian Gulf after transiting the Strait of Hormuz in support of Project Freedom," US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on X, referring to the operation announced by President Donald Trump yesterday.

"American forces are actively assisting efforts to restore transit for commercial shipping," CENTCOM said, adding that "two US-flagged merchant vessels have successfully transited through the Strait of Hormuz and are safely headed on their journey."

  3. Iranian officials are reinforcing the idea that Iran is the guardian of this strategic waterway.

What’s interesting in the past hour is that FM Araghchi engaged in a meeting with parliament and stated, according to local media, that “they are drafting a mechanism for managing the Strait of Hormuz… the Strait will not return to previous conditions and hostile vessels will not be allowed to pass”.

The foreign ministry said that, at around 8:40 pm in Seoul (1140 GMT), “an explosion and fire occurred on a vessel operated by a South Korean shipping company... anchored in waters near the United Arab Emirates inside the Strait of Hormuz.”

  12. Tasnim News denies CENTCOM's claim that six Iranian gunboats were sunk in the Strait of Hormuz today.

U.S. Central Command Admiral Brad Cooper earlier claimed six Iranian boats were destroyed following an attempt to strike ships passing through the Strait. Iran now says that didn't happen.

Either CENTCOM fabricated the sinking to justify escalation, or Iran is denying losses to avoid looking weak. Both sides are now openly contradicting each other's battlefield claims as the information war intensifies alongside the shooting war.
