US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that American forces had intercepted a “gift from China” to Iran.
Speaking ahead of the expiry of the current two-week ceasefire on Wednesday, Trump told CNBC that Tehran had “probably done a little bit of restocking” and implied that Beijing had been helping its efforts.
He added: “We caught a ship yesterday that had some things on it, which wasn’t very nice, a gift from China.”
The US military said on Tuesday it had seized an Iran-linked tanker in international waters, in what appears to be the latest move to enforce a blockade as the ceasefire deadline looms.
The US military said it had boarded the tanker Tifani “without incident.”

The U.S. Department of War said Tuesday that its forces had boarded an oil tanker previously sanctioned for smuggling Iranian crude.
ReplyDeleteShip-tracking data showed the vessel located in the Indian Ocean, between Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
"Overnight, U.S. forces conducted a right-of-visit, maritime interdiction and boarding of the stateless sanctioned M/T Tifani" in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command area of responsibility, the Pentagon said on social media platform X.
"International waters are not a refuge for sanctioned vessels," it further said.
"As we have made clear, we will pursue global maritime enforcement efforts to disrupt illicit networks and interdict sanctioned vessels providing material support to Iran, anywhere they operate," the Pentagon said.
