Trump says US to "blockade all ships entering or leaving Hormuz"

Hours after the US-Iran talks in Islamabad failed, President Donald Trump has warned that US forces will immediately “begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz”.

“At some point, we will reach an ‘ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO IN, ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO OUT’ basis, but Iran has not allowed that to happen,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran,” he continued. “No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas.”

The US president has further said in his Truth Social post that Washington remains “locked and loaded” and its military will “finish up” Iran at the “appropriate moment”.

  3. Defending his planned blockade, the US president says that Iran cannot control which ships go through the Strait of Hormuz, declaring that either every ship should have safe passage or none will.

“We’re not going to let Iran make money on selling oil to people that they like,” Trump told Fox News. “It’s going to be all or none, and that’s the way it is.”

The blockade will be similar to what the US imposed on Venezuela, though on a larger scale, Trump said, suggesting that more tankers would come to the US to buy oil as a result.

Trump also reiterated his threat to destroy Iran’s power plants and other civilian energy infrastructure.

“I could take out Iran in one day…I could have their entire energy, everything, every one of their plants, their electric generating plants, which is a big deal,” he said.
